Computer Thoughts

My PC has died.

Lightning struck.

Words, photographs,

my past, all gone.

Will it go the way of all outmoded computers?

Or will it be resurrected

like Christ?

After all it’s not the body

that matters but what it holds

that universe of thoughts

that makes each of us unique.

And in Christ’s case that certainly

did not die.

P.S. Neither did my computer.

    1. The above, was from Mike Shaughnessy. Hoping to see you soon. I will arrive Orvieto this coming Monday. This time I’m staying again at Allen Basile’s place, across from Anthony’s Blue Bar

  1. Erika. I am sorry I did not respond to this sooner. We had a crisis yesterday just when your poem arrived…our house sitter cancelled coming. long sad story, not worth bothering you. But suddenly we had to find a new sitter for the house and for Tiana. None of our friends here could help….they are all traveling at one time or another and this sit was for almost 3 weeks (Slovenia and Croatia). I posted afresh on Trusted Housesitters worried that such a last minute request for such a longer sit would not find many interested. But remarkably, within hours we had 3 applicants, all looking possible. we did a video call with the first applicant this morning, and we think she will be an excellent fit. She lives in Albania but was born and grew up in Tel Aviv. she has traveled the world, and loves dogs. Whew! So, I was very distracted until this was solved. I am so sorry to hear about your Mac computer. I hope that with a computer wiz like your son helping you, your computer was backed up. if so, nothing is lost, just unavailable until you get another computer. Your poem suggests you do think all your messages and photos are gone, with only memories remaining. The memories can continue but those photos and emails should be easily recoverable. How did you compose and send this poem? Using your iPhone? If so, you did a lovely job. We will plan to come see you tomorrow or Saturday. I know you are not feeling well, but I hope a short visit won’t be too hard on you….and we miss you! James

PS trivial correction. A PC means a Windows computer. A Mac computer like yours is called a Mac…not a PC. > >

  2. Dearest Erika,

O what a heart-rendering jolt to have lost a lifetime of writings, pictures, and correspondence.

I, like James, am hopeful that your data may be backed up and restored.

Still, your resilience rises above any trial and shines on in your recent poem. I hope your shingles symptoms are residing.

You are so treasured and loved, jhan
